Ballot overview

• Ballot 28 – Membership Criteria proposed new membership criteria for the CA/Browser Forum.

Proposed membership criteria

• Voting members of the CA/Browser Forum would need to meet at least one of these criteria:
  • Issuing CA: the member organization operates a certification authority with a current and successful WebTrust for CAs audit, or ETSI 102042 or ETSI 101456 audit report prepared by a properly-qualified auditor, and actively issues certificates to Web servers openly accessible from the Internet using a mainstream browser.
  • Root CA: the member organization operates a certification authority with a current and successful WebTrust for CAs, or ETSI 102042 or ETSI 101456 audit report prepared by a properly-qualified auditor, and actively issues certificates to subordinate CAs that in turn actively issue certificates to Web servers openly accessible from the Internet using a mainstream browser.
  • Product supplier: the organization supplies a product that processes digital certificates and makes trust decisions for PKI relying parties.
• Non-voting members would be representatives of organizations that supply products or services related to certificate use but do not process digital certificates for relying parties, including standards bodies, PKI component suppliers, and subscribers.

Ballot timing stated on the page

• The ballot review period would begin at 2100 UTC on 25 May 09 and close at 2100 UTC on 1 June 2009.
• If not withdrawn during review, the voting period would start immediately afterward and close at 2100 UTC on 8 June 2009.
• Votes were to be cast by reply all to the email, with yes, no, or abstain responses counted only if clear.

Outcome
